Yom HaShoah: A day to remember

On May 6, six trees were dedicated on the campus of Temple Beth Sholom and Goldie Feldman Academy through the “Remember Me Orchard” program in recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day or Yom HaShoah.

Students at GFA researched the Yad Vashem Database of Lost Children to find six lost children of the Holocaust through the planting.

The project also honored community leader and longtime Temple Beth Sholom member Allan Lichtenstein and GFA parent Ben Reinhardt, both of whom died recently.

Little ninjas

Everybody was fighting — sort of — Saturday morning on Siesta Key Beach. Students of the International Marital Arts Academy were in their full gi and belts practicing jiu-jitsu in the water under the lead of instructor Tamas Torok. The practice was part of a sunrise training session for the children who range in age from 5 to 13.
