WHAT'S THE BUZZ?

Livability.com has ranked Sarasota second on its “Top 10 Best Places to Retire” list for 2015, citing quality health care and retiree-friendly services. The city was the only municipality in Florida to make the list. Here’s what readers on our Facebook had to say about the ranking:

"It is paradise! Yet, I wish all these lists would stop letting the secret out! Let's keep the small city charm!" Lori Lewis

"Sarasota is beautiful. The real estate is over priced, crime is on the rise, traffic is crazy, but the views are nice driving around. Not where I would live." Beth Camisa

"It's changed a lot in the 12 years we've been here." Dawn Christensen Bedell

"My home, I love Sarasota. Heaven on this Earth!" Josh Gydosh

Automobile burglaries flare up on Siesta Key

Lock your cars, and keep any valuables inside out of sight.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Jason Mruczek advised attendees at the Nov. 3 Siesta Key Village Association meeting that there were 11 automobile burglaries on the Key in October. There were three in both October 2013 and October 2014, according to SCSO spokeswoman Wendy Rose.

The crimes occurred in areas east of the Village and the public beach — mostly during the late evening and nighttime hours. Items stolen include wallets, change and iPads.

Mruczek said the sheriff’s office has identified possible suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

All but one of the cars burglarized were unlocked, according to Rose, who urged people to take precautions against being victimized by locking vehicles and removing valuables or keeping them out of sight.

The public should also report suspicious activities, Mruczek said.
