MONDAY, APRIL 6

12th Annual Embracing Our Differences Exhibitall day atBayfront Park. Free. 

This annual outdoor art exhibit celebrating diversity returns to Sarasota through May 22.

Since its inaugural exhibit in 2004, Embracing Our Differences has drawn hundreds of thousands of annually to see the 39 billboard-sized images created by artists, writers and students from around the world reflecting on the theme of enriching lives through diversity.


TUESDAY, APRIL 7

George Worthmore — takes place at 7 p.m. at the Blue Rooster. $10.

Worthmore's will showcase his ragtime and blues guitar stylings.

Worthmore has spent more than two decades backing up acts such as Kinky Friedman, Bo Diddley, Ben E. King, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Lou Christy and The Platters and has even played as a second guitarist for Hot Tuna.


WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8

Designing Daughters Fashionable Gala Pre-Party — takes place at 5:30 p.m. at Encore Motors of Sarasota. $20.

Get in the philanthropic spirit with beer, wine and light bites at this pre-gala party.

Help raise funds for Designing Daughters and get ready for this year's Fashionable Gala, which has a "Mystery Men and Bond Girls" theme.


THURSDAY, APRIL 9

'Chicken Shop' — takes place at 8 p.m. at Urbanite Theatre. 1487 Second St. $20. $5 for students.

Catch the preview performance of the U.S. debut production of "Chicken Shop," at Sarasota's newest black-box theater.

Written by Anna Jordan, "Chicken Shop," is the coming-of-age story of Hendrix, a young gay man struggling to prove his masculinity who befriends a girl with an unbearable life in a sordid room above a fried chicken shop. Runs through May 3.


FRIDAY, APRIL 10

Film Festival Opening Night Film and Party — takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Sarasota Opera House. $100.

This red-carpet event begins with opening-night film "Time Out of Mind," and is followed by the opening night party, which will feature music by the Hip Nauticals and DJ Imminent.

Ticket includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres, catered by The Francis Restaurant and complimentary festival-themed cocktails, with cash purchases also available.


SATURDAY, APRIL 11

Compound's 12-Year Anniversary Party — takes place at 6 p.m. at Compound Boardshop, 4063 Clark Rd. Free.

Help support Compound's Mission Mexico fundraiser with this annual party, featuring live music by professional skater Ray Barbee and local garage-rockers Los Demolirs.

Also check out the evening's raffles, giveaways, art show and free food and drink.


SUNDAY, APRIL 12

Brunch and Brews — takes place at 10 a.m. at JDub's Brewing Co. $25.

JDub's Brewing is teaming up with local food truck Morgan's Canteen & Catering for the second Brunch and Brews event.

Enjoy two brunch entrées and beer pairing in the tap room. First course will be served at 10 a.m. and beer pairings will be available throughout the event. Limited seating.
