Dogs and humans can play together this weekend during a special doggie fun day.

The Southwest Florida Great Dane Rescue is hosting a free education and play day for canines and homo sapiens. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at 3005 65th Street East, Bradenton.

The event is outside, but has shade and baby pools for dogs to splash in. Owners can attend different stations to learn about agility and rally training, obedience classes, behavioral issues and even doggy acupuncture. New or potential dog owners can also learn about choosing a puppy.

The event is free; however lunch is $10 per person. Heike Caspary, SWGD event coordinator will be helping cook Mexican fare and requests an RSVP if possible to maintain a head count needed for food.

Dogs of all breeds and sizes are allowed but must be leashed, although retractable leashes leashes are prohibited. Guests are recommended to bring chairs.
