It takes effort to become a good neighbor

An editorial in this issue questioned renovations by the newest business in Siesta Village, Circle K. The piece mentions that the corporation met with members of the Siesta Key Association, Siesta Key Village Association and the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce to ensure a smooth transition into the new location. 

Compromises to the design of the building included deviation from the standard flat-roof design and installation of barrel tile. But a lack of landscaping made the building stand out from the efforts SKVA put into beautifying the businesses along Ocean Boulevard with new trees, landscaping and brickwork.  

The editorial ends with this: “Nothing can force the Circle K corporation to make these changes, but just as the early willingness to work with the community enhanced the business image, so making the changes would reaffirm their desire to be a GOOD NEIGHBOR.”

Opera Society produces the star of cookbooks

Helen Jepson Dellara, a former Metropolitan Opera star who moved to Sarasota, welcomed the famed tenor Lucianno Pavarotti when he gave a concert at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. The cookbook, “The Prima Diner,” was being published to benefit the Sarasota Opera Society and included a recipe contributed by Pavarotti.
