A presentation by members of Public Works Sarasota County for the board of commissioners on May 7 brought some news about the progress maintaining Siesta Village.

Executive Director Jim Harriott said during the budget workshop that as part of a $500,000 omnibus planned for presentation this summer the parking lines in the municipal parking lot behind Siesta Market will be repainted.

“They’re not quite seven years old and we’re not sure why were losing them, but their definitely going away,” Harriott explained to the commissioners. This is in addition to relining that will be done in South Sarasota County, he said.

The issue was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Siesta Key Village Association when a spokesman for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said he had asked for it to be relined by the county but was turned down.

Said Harriott on Monday: “It’s a high pedestrian area and we feel it’s important to redo those pavement lines.”
