Tara Elementary to add sixth grade

Members of the Manatee County School Board Monday night approved a proposal to offer sixth grade classes at Tara and Palm View elementary schools next year.

As proposed, the expanded grade-level environment will offer a smaller learning community environment for sixth-grade students than at traditional middle schools. The number of sixth-grade students would be limited to 88, and participation in the program will be 100% choice offerings.

The two schools may eventually be expanded to include seventh and eighth grades, but not at this time.
Currently, all district elementary schools offer kindergarten through fifth grades, with some schools offering pre-kindergarten classes.
