The Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce has started a statewide search for a new executive director.

Former Executive Director Debra Lynn-Schimtz vacated the position July 7 after 16 months leading the chamber. SKCC Board of Directors chairwoman Alana Tomasso said the decision was a mutual one.

"It was mutual that we were looking for something different. She is pursuing different opportunities," Tomasso said.

For the moment the staff is operating without an executive director but board of directors is checking in frequently. The search is underway to fill the position as soon as possible. Tomasso said the challenge with filling the position is finding someone who understands the challenges of managing a chamber that also serves as a visitor's center.

"Last time we did a national search, this time we’ll be doing a more local search in Florida," Tomasso said. "There are chambers all over the country who do things a little differently. Someone who knows the area would be beneficial as well."

Prior to joining SKCC in March 2014, Lynn-Schmitz served as the executive director/ CEO for the Greater Medina Chamber of Commerce for 19 years in Ohio. She frequently visited Siesta Key and Sarasota County as a resident of Ohio.
