+ Riverview sweeps Venice Invitational
The Riverview High boys and girls cross-country teams both won the Venice Invitational Oct. 18.
The boys team scored 27 points to finish ahead of Venice (44). Cardinal Mooney was third (98), while Sarasota was fourth (109). ODA finished seventh (175).

Warran Grajalez won the meet, finishing in 16 minutes, 26.60 seconds. Matthew Berman was second in 16:41.40, followed by John Tejada (sixth, 17:29.70), Blake Bright (eighth, 17:41.90) and Read Quarles (10th, 18:19.20).

Jack Corey finished 12th (18:20.70) to lead the way for Cardinal Mooney.

On the girls side, Riverview scored 18 points to finish ahead of Braden River (79). Cardinal Mooney was third with 86 points, and ODA finished fourth (89).

Jessica Lonas won the meet in 19:53.40 to lead the way for Riverview.

Robyn Natherson finished second in 19:53.50, followed by Elayna Goodman (fifth, 21:14.90), Emily Kracht (seventh, 21:21.20) and Sydnee Berman (11th, 21:26.30).

Sarasota’s Tania Vasques finished third (20:56.00) while teammate Morgan Holmes was fourth (21:10.70).

Tatum Weishaar finished sixth (21:15.30) to lead the way for Cardinal Mooney while Chloe Ruppert finished 17th (22:51.30) to power ODA.

+ Riverview volleyball wins PINK match
The Riverview High volleyball team defeated rival Sarasota 25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18 in its annual PINK match Oct. 14.

Sarah Neill powered the Lady Rams with 14 kills. Ashley Allmer added 33 assists and nine kills. Sam Norden had 28 digs and four aces. Margo Schnapf finished with 20 perfect passes and four aces.

+ Riverview finishes as district runner-up
The Riverview High boys golf team shot a combined 323 to finish second at the Class 3A-District 14 tournament Oct 13, at Misty Creek Country Club in Sarasota.

Riverview’s Jeremy Perna and Eric Souchak each shot 78, and Nick Kaufman and Pierce Roberts added an 82 and 85, respectively.

Sarasota finished sixth with a 377.

As the district runner-up, the Rams advanced to the Class 3A-Region 5 tournament Oct. 20, at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers.

Riverview shot a combined 318 to finish fifth in the regional tournament. Hunter Rieth shot 78 followed by Perna, Souchak and Kaufman, who all shot 80.

+ Lady Blazers prevail in five games
The Sarasota Christian volleyball team came back to beat the Manatee HEAT 25-23, 25-27, 23-25, 25-21, 15-8 to close out the regular season Oct. 16.

Heidi Miller finished with 15 kills and two aces to lead the way for the Lady Blazers (17-3). Anikka Jensen had 11 kills and six blocks. Brianna Eddy added 12 kills and three blocks.

+ Incarnation Middle School varsity volleyball
The Incarnation Middle School varsity volleyball team went undefeated, finishing the season with an 11-0 record to win the division championship.

Incarnation defeated Port Charlotte Community Christian School 25-15, 25-14 in the finals Oct. 7, at Cardinal Mooney High.

Championship players include: Sophia Hebda, Taylor Currie, Lauson Beatty, Erin Grier, Grace Dickinson, Amanda Bush, Shannon Kennelly, Mary Hurl and Anne Dickinson.
