+ ODA prevails in OT
Out-of-Door Academy senior Sean Kirshe hit a 27-yard field goal in overtime, as the Thunder rallied for a 40-37 come-from-behind victory over Class 2A-District 6 rival Evangelical Christian Sept. 28. 

Kirshe also hit a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter for the first points of the game. Trailing 30-10, senior quarterback Evan Wilson threw a pair of touchdown passes to sophomore Drew Fineberg, who finished with five catches for 105 yards. Wilson also ran in for a pair of touchdowns. J.T. Fischer added a 1-yard touchdown. 

ODA returns to action Oct. 12 versus the Imagine School of Naples. 

+ Lady Thunder edge past Lady Panthers
The Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team held on to beat Bradenton Christian 3-2 in district action Oct. 1.
The Lady Thunder (5-4, 2-2) defeated the Lady Panthers 25-16, 25-11, 17-25, 21-25, 15-11.

Natalie Buffett led ODA with 13 kills. Lauren Maxey added eight kills and 10 aces. Gabriella Costa finished with six kills and five blocks, and Haley Preininger had 23 assists and 12 perfect passes.

+ Venice High beats Sarasota and Mooney
The Sarasota High and Cardinal Mooney High boys golf teams finished second and third, respectively, in a tri-meet with Venice Sept. 25.

Venice shot 151, followed by Sarasota (164) and Cardinal Mooney (194).

Brennan Dougherty shot 38 to lead the way for the Sailors, followed by Jacques Celestino (39), David Van Brandt (41) and Tim Jones (46). Cardinal Mooney’s Jake LaMore shot 42 to lead the way for the Cougars followed by Matt Koval (49), Michael Staikos (51) and Brandon Giczewski (52).

+ Manta Rays swing past Cougars
The Cardinal Mooney High boys golf team fell to Lemon Bay Sept. 27.

Jake LaMore shot 43 to pace the Cougars, who shot a combined 190 to finish behind the Manta Rays (169). Jack Dingle shot a 46, followed by Matt Koval (48) and Mabry Robinson (53).

+ Sarasota Scullers host regatta
The Sarasota Scullers Youth Rowing Club hosted its fourth annual Sarasota 5000 Regatta Sept. 30 at Blackburn Point Park.

Nineteen teams participated in the regatta, including the Scullers, the Sarasota Crew, Manatee and Palmetto.

First-place finishers include:

• The Sarasota Crew Womens Masters 4+
• The Scullers Womens high school 2x
• The Scullers Mens high school 4x
