Since last week, Lee Fox, executive director of Save Our Seabirds Inc., has been on standby to coordinate the Oiled Wildlife Response Team for the Florida Gulf Coast in case oil from the spill off the coast of Louisiana spreads toward Florida waters. Her team will seek out wildlife that has been impacted by the spill.
Now, Save Our Seabirds is asking for help as staff members and volunteers prepare to assist with oil-spill related wildlife rescue efforts.
The organization needs supplies including small pet carriers (no wire cages), small condo-type cages, detergent, bleach, Home Depot and Lowe’s gift cards, old sheets and towels, electrical extension cords, heating pads, plastic clipboards, pliers, folding tables and chairs, and heating pads.
The facility will also need extra volunteers to carry on day-to-day duties while staff members are deployed.
