A pedestrian is in serious condition after a vehicle struck him and fled the scene around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

A Florida Highway Patrol report states 71-year-old Sigurd Hagen was walking northbound on University Parkway, just west of Lockwood Ridge Road, when a vehicle heading eastbound on University Parkway failed to stop in time. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene.

Hagen was not at a crosswalk and failed to yield to traffic.

He suffered serious injuries and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

A witness described the vehicle as a green car.

The public information officer for Florida Highway Patrol could not be reached at press time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper D.A. Cole at 239-938-1800.
