A Sarasota County law enforcement officer rescued a kitten testing its allotment of lives at a busy intersection Wednesday.

Sheriff’s Office deputy Michelle Pufnock saved a black cat from traffic near the intersection of Beneva Road and Webber Street, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page. The kitten, named Michelle after her rescuer, joins other adoptable pets at Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services.

This wasn’t the first time local first responders saved a tiny animal — Sarasota Police officer Juan Sanchez rescued a duckling from a gutter in July, and last summer, SPD and Sarasota County Fire Department personnel rescued a duckling that had fallen into a storm drain near Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
