Braden River High was named the Class 7A overall winner of the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award.

The award, which was presented to 20 high schools and three middle schools across the state, honors schools whose athletic teams demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship during the 2012-13 regular season and FHSSA State Series.

“This is a special award for our member schools, honoring those who truly do things the right way,” says FHSAA Executive Director Dr. Roger Dearing. “Sportsmanship is the most important value we can install in our young student-athletes, and the schools we honor today have demonstrated a deep commitment to integrity and the spirit of fair play.”

The Pirates won the award for Section 3 and were then named the Class 7A overall winner. Riverview High won the award for Class 8A-Section3.

Section winners will receive $500 and a commemorative plaque. Each overall winner will receive an additional $2,500 and a larger plaque.
