Patriot Plaza was named to the top three buildings recognized in The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects People’s Choice Competition for 2016.

A total of 39 projects from across the state were nominated and brought in more than 283,000 with more than 30,000 going toward Patriot Plaza.

Located at Sarasota National Cemetery, Patriot Plaza is the site of events including Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies that honor local veterans. The 2,800-seat amphitheater project was completed in 2014 through the partnership between The Patterson Foundation and the National Cemetery Administration.

“The volume and dedication of online voters from around the world is a testament to Patriot Plaza’s ability to convey the experiences of our service members and their families in a way that transcends traditional barriers,” said Debra Jacobs in a release, president and CEO of the Patterson Foundation. “It’s humbling to know that it has already become a part of the architectural legacy for which Sarasota is renowned, and we’d like to congratulate the other beautiful structures recognized in the competition.”
