Ruth Curran, 85, of Longboat Key and formerly of Cincinnati, died Oct. 8.

Born Dec. 12, 1928, in Nantucket, Mass., Mrs. Curran managed a law firm in Cincinnati before moving to Longboat Key.

Mrs. Curran is remembered for her volunteer work with Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) and serving as the store manager for the resale shop the Treasure Chest. Both she and her late husband, Daniel, volunteered with SPARCC.

“She and her husband, Dan, were incredibly dedicated to the Treasure Chest and, more importantly, the cause to support victims of domestic and sexual violence with the funds raised,” said Olivia Thomas, president and CEO of SPARCC.

Mrs. Curran was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel. She is survived by daughters Priscilla O’Keefe, of Longboat Key, and Alison Parr, of Cincinnati; son, Jeffrey, of Columbus, Ohio; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Curran’s name to SPARCC or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A celebration of Mrs. Curran’s life was held Oct. 13, at Toale Brothers Funeral Home Colonial Chapel.
