+ MIS Director Kathi Pletzke to retire Feb. 1
Longboat Key Management Information Systems (MIS) Director Kathi Pletzke will retire Feb. 1, after 18 years with the town.

“Kathi is an exceptional problem solver and not afraid to tackle any problem. Kathi is a known innovator. I am especially appreciative of her work on fiscal transparency,” Town Manager Dave Bullock wrote in an email to the Longboat Key Town Commission.

Bullock has appointed Network Administrator Jason Keen to serve as acting director.

+ Hazardous waste/e-Scrap collection event Saturday
Manatee County will hold a Household Hazardous Waste/E-Scrap Collection event in conjunction with the town and cities of Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 31, in the Gulfside parking lot of Coquina Beach.

Island residents can dispose of solvents, latex- and oil-base paints, garden pesticides, household chemicals, ammunition, flares, waste oil propane tanks, florescent lamps, mercury-containing devices, pool chemicals, old gasoline in containers and batteries and electronic devices.

Radioactive and bio-hazardous materials will not be accepted.

+ Power outages reported in Sleepy Lagoon
Power outages were reported Friday morning in the Sleepy Lagoon area of Longboat Key.

FPL.com listed the cause of the outage as damage to electrical equipment caused by a tree or branch. Approximately 25 customers were impacted. Power was restored by Friday afternoon.

+ Corrections
The Jan. 14 issue of the Longboat Observer incorrectly estimated the timeframe for installing a pipe that will pump the Key’s wastewater through Sarasota Bay to the mainland. The pipe will be installed in 2016.
The Jan. 21 issue of the Longboat Observer included the incorrect spelling of letter-writer Francis Robinson’s name.
