+ Duncan proposes Code Enforcement workshop
Commissioner Jack Duncan suggested discussing the integration of some code-enforcement duties into police activities as a future commission workshop agenda item. In an email to Town Manager Bruce St. Denis, Duncan suggested that providing code-enforcement training to police could allow the town to quickly identify violations without increasing costs.

+ B.J. Webb elected to USTA foundation board
Planning Zoning & Building Chairwoman B.J. Webb was recently elected to the board of the USTA Florida Section Foundation. The foundation provides grants for after-school and physical education programs for at-risk children, improvement of public tennis facilities and instruction, travel and equipment for underprivileged, at-risk and special populations of children and adults.

+ Legislature to hold redistricting hearing
The Florida Legislature will hold a hearing to discuss redistricting of the Sarasota/Manatee area, including Longboat Key districts. The hearing will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at New College’s Harry Sudakoff Conference Center, 5845 General Dougher Place, Sarasota.
