+ Key condos complete Bay Partner Grant Projects
Two Longboat Key condominium associations recently completed Bay Partner Grant Projects funded by the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program (SBEP). The Windward Bay Condominium Association expanded its saltwater bioswale and added more native plants. The Beachplace Association Inc. expanded and upgraded its storm-water retention pond.

Grant applications for the current fiscal year are due by 4 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012. Download applications at sarasotabay.org.

+ Commission to discuss pension study funding
The Longboat Key Town Commission will discuss a resolution at its Dec. 15 regular workshop that provides additional funding to expand its pension-plan study to include the firefighter pension plan. In January, the commission authorized funding for a study to analyze costs for alternatives going forward for both the general-employee- and police-officer pension plans.

+ Sea turtle released from Broadway Beach Access
Jeffrey, a green sea turtle who was rehabilitated at Mote Marine Laboratory, was released Monday, Dec. 12 from the Broadway Beach Access. Jeffrey was rescued April 30 after he got caught in a trawl net placed before a drudge. The net was intended to keep marine animals away from the dredge, allowing them to be relocated and released.

Jeffrey received laser surgery at Mote for fibropapilloma tumors.
