+ Satchel’s Last Resort seeks assistance
Satchel’s Last Resort, a shelter that houses dogs that have been deemed unadoptable and offers temporary shelter to adoptable dogs, is seeking assistance.

The shelter experienced water damage in 2011 and has exhausted much of its savings to repair it. Satchel’s Last Resort is seeking monetary donations to fund operations for the next year. Donations will go toward electricity, maintenance, animal caretakers and vet care. Food donations are not necessary.

+ Education First seeks Sarasota families
Education First exchange-student company is seeking another 40 families in the Sarasota-Bradenton area to help host students from Spain, France and China this summer.

Exchange students will be visiting the United States in July and August to improve their English skills and learn about America.

Host families with high school children will earn 45 to 60 hours of community service toward a Florida Bright Futures college scholarship.

Students participating in the program must be placed before June 1.

A story in the May 3 issue of the Sarasota Observer quoted Coastal Behavioral Healthcare Board Chairman Jack Donoghue as stating that The Department of Community Affairs was the source of a contract. The department Donoghue named as the source of the contract was Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF).
