Dr. Nick Whitney, a post-doctoral scientist at Mote Marine Laboratory’s Center for Shark Research, was recognized as one of Albion College’s first Top 10 in 10 Young Alumni Award winners at a ceremony in Albion, Mich.
Whitney specializes in shark behavioral ecology. His current research uses accelerometer technology, which is used in iPods and Nintendo Wii, to study fine-scale behaviors in sharks, sea turtles and Burmese pythons.
Whitney has been awarded more than 15 competitive research grants totaling nearly $200,000. A Bradenton resident, Whitney is a 2000 graduate of Albion College and earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
