Mote Marine Laboratory received a $25,000 grant Friday from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s Building Organizations’ Operational Strength Today initiative to develop a new automatic system to track work hours online.

The grant is part of $500,000 awarded to 38 non-profit groups this year by the program.

According to a prepared statement from Mote, streamlining the way that staff log work hours is complex, because staff members work on multiple projects each day and are based at five different Florida facilities.

“This grant provides crucial support for one of Mote’s basic needs and helps us to stretch our dollars in this difficult economy,” said Mote President Dr. Kumar Mahadevan in a prepared statement. “As we strive to support our science, education and outreach efforts, it’s hard to get donations for less glamorous operations like more efficient time reporting. We appreciate that the Community Foundation recognizes this necessity.”
