It’s no secret that designer Michael Kors is one of Longboat Key’s most famous new homeowners and was supposed to participate in the Longboat Key Garden Club’s Taste of the Keys fashion show fundraiser Jan. 27.

Last week, however, Kors withdrew his commitment, and the Garden Club will welcome fashions from the Key’s very own J.McLaughlin.

“I am very grateful to have J.McLaughlin as a partner in this event because they’re a quality brand, they’re local and they’ve already supported community events,” Garden Club President Susan Phillips said. “They’re giving us a more enhanced show than we would’ve had with Michael Kors.”

The fashion show will include both local celebrities and models from J.McLaughlin. The store will also be selling items at the show, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Garden Club.

New this year will be six local celebrities acting as bartenders for the night, including Mayor Jack Duncan.

Sixteen to 18 restaurants will also be participating, more than ever before.

“We’re kicking it up a notch,” Phillips said. “It’s our fifth year, and it will be bigger and better than ever before.”

Proceeds from the event will go toward scholarships and various local charities. Tickets will go on sale next month.
