+ Mating manatees require a little space
Summer is here, and that means love is in the air … for manatees, that is. That’s right, it’s manatee mating season, and Mote Marine wants boaters to be aware of their mating rituals. Often, female manatees attempt to evade male suitors, and herds of up to a dozen manatees can quickly form in shallow waters while a group of males surrounds the females. Boaters should give herds a wide berth and remain at least 100 feet away. For more manatee-friendly tips, visit mote.org.
