The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a convicted felon in connection with two Kensington Park burglaries.

Two women in Kensington Park reported that their houses were burglarized, one August 8 and the other August 11, and that jewelry was stolen.

Kristjan Newman, 29, of Sarasota, allegedly pawned women’s jewelry at five different locations in north Sarasota earlier in August. Detectives began investigating Newman, who is a violent felony offender previously imprisoned for armed burglary and dealing stolen property.

Detectives for the office learned that he had several connections with people in the Kensington Park subdivision. They also contacted the victims of the burglaries, who identified their jewelry from the pieces Newman had pawned.

Newman has been charged with dealing stolen property and providing false ownership information on a pawn slip, and also for violating probation.
