The Susan G. Komen Go for the Cure events on Longboat Key have set a new record.

After totaling proceeds of Game Day, Mind in Motion Casino Night and the most recent Sports Day, held Feb. 28, at the Longboat Key Club, Co-Chairwoman Andi Munzer reported $103,000 had been raised. Last year’s total was $84,000.

Munzer said a record 196 golfers, 9-hole and 18-holers, and tennis players took part in Sports Day. The event was dedicated to the memory of Bea Rapowitz, a co-founder of the first Go for the Cure event held 12 years ago.

“That first year we held a single event, an afternoon of golf and raised about $50,000,” Munzer said.
A second event — Game Day — was added, and two years ago a Casino Night was added. It proved to be a success as well.

At the luncheon held at the Harbourside Dining Room, Munzer and her co-chairwoman, Rosalie Bergman, had special thanks for the Auction and Raffle Committee of Susan Levine, Betsy Granite and Gloria Bergman.

Thanks also went the Longboat Key Club staff for their cooperation.

Planning the events is a year-long process. After reviewing this year’s events, committees will be formed, and plans will begin for 2013.

Funds raised go to the Susan G. Komen/Florida Suncoast affiliate, which serves the surrounding area.
