Longboat Key offers summer camp options

Summer camp is great for parents who want to keep their kids entertained and for kids looking forward to some fun in the sun. Pack the SPF and fruit snacks, and ship your kids off to a fun day at camp, where they can play and make new friends (and maybe even learn a thing or two!). Whether your child enjoys swinging a racket, playing in the water, exploring the bay or making friendship bracelets, here are some great options offered around the Key.

Longboat Key Club and Resort
Kids Klub Summer Camp
Weekly themed sessions: Party in the USA, Adventure Island, Spirit Week, LBKC Olympics, Survivor LBKC Week and Water Week.
Ages: 5 to 12
When: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from July 2 to Aug. 10
Cost: $220 per child, per weekly session

Sixth annual Junior Tennis Camp
This camp is for kids who want to improve their tennis skills with a focus on fundamentals, modern technique, tennis psychology, score keeping, game playing, tennis strategy, footwork and conditioning. Key Club pros will lead groups of five (maximum).
Ages: 8 to 17
When: June 4 to Aug. 10; full-day (8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and half-day (8:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 3:30 p.m.) sessions are available.
Cost: $245 to $275 for a half-day session; $500 to $540 for full-day session.

Kids Summer Sports Camp
This sports camp introduces tennis, golf, soccer, baseball and more. Children will get daily tennis and golf lessons and learn the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship through playing.
Ages: 6 to 12, Pee Wee half-day camp for ages 4 to 5
When: Ten weekly sessions: full-day 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; half-day 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Cost: $185 to $200 for half-day session; $330 to $360 for full-day sessions

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium
Aquakids
Children will snorkle, visit the aquarium and take a boat trip through Sarasota Bay to learn about food webs and local critters.
Ages: Students entering first grade through fourth grade
When: June 11 to June 15; June 18 to June 22; June 25 to June 29; July 2 to July 6; July 9 to July 13; July 16 to July 20; July 23 to July 27; July 30 to Aug. 3; Aug. 6 to Aug. 10; Aug. 13 to Aug. 17

Digi-Know How Beginner
Students will learn the basics of digital media: camcorders, computers and iPod Touch.
Ages: Students entering fifth grade through eighth grade

Mommy and Me
You and your child will learn about ocean life through crafts, games, songs, stories, role playing and special visits to the Mote exhibits and Sarasota Bay.
Ages: 2 to 5, with adult
When: June 12 to June 14; June 19 to June 21; June 26 to June 28; July 3 to July 5; July 10 to July 12; July 17 to July 19; July 24 to July 26; and July 31 to Aug. 2
Cost: $125 for members; $135 non-members

Digi-Know How Advanced
Students will learn and adapt skills on digital media using camcorders computers and the iPod Touch. Digi-Know How Beginner is a prerequisite.
Ages: Students entering fifth grade through eighth grade

Discovering the Florida Keys
Travel to Mote’s Tropical Research Lab on Summerland Key, in the Florida Keys, during this overnight camp that includes snorkeling, kayaking and lessons about marine life.
Ages: Students entering seventh grade through eighth grade
When: June 25 to June 29; July 9 to July 13; and Aug. 6 to Aug. 10
Cost: Members $955; non-members $1,005

Sarasota Yacht Club
2012 Summer Camp Program
Campers will spend their days swimming, fishing, sailing, and exploring wildlife as well as decorating cookies and making crafts.
Ages: Children ages 5 to 16
When: Runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday for three two-week sessions: June 18 to June 29; July 16 to July 27; and July 30 to Aug. 10.
Cost: Children ages 5 to 7, $500; children ages 8 to 16, $550

Sarasota Sailing Squadron
2012 Summer Camp Program
This camp will teach your child the joy of sailing, essential elements of boat handling, seamanship, water-safety skills and racing.
Ages: 5 to 18
