The public pool at Lido Beach is closed in the wake of a lightning strike last week, and city staff is still working to assess the extent of the damage.

On Thursday, the city announced it had closed Lido Pool after lightning struck the electrical panel that controls the pool’s pumps and chemical levels.

Judy Soenneker, the city’s parks and recreation administrative supervisor, said staff is unsure whether the panel needs to be replaced or if it can be repaired. The city hopes to have more information regarding the damage today.

Either way, Soenneker said, the pool is unlikely to reopen in the next few days.

“Even if it’s a minor repair, I’m looking at least the remainder of this week that the pool will be closed,” she said.
