LBK North is hosting a meeting at Longbeach Condominiums at 10 a.m., Wednesday April 5 to discuss issues facing the north end.

The following items are on the meeting’s agenda.

Greer Island: What are the best solutions, both short term and long term, to beach erosion on Greer Island? With the North End Shoreline Stabilization Project, possible solutions will soon be considered by the Town Commission.

Future development of the Center for the Arts property: Ringling College is in the process of selling the Center for the Arts to a developer. The center is expected to close at the end of May. What are the developer’s intentions for the property?

Relocating a historic cottage: As the Center for the Arts is being sold, LBK North is making efforts to relocate a cottage from the property to a new location on the north end. The cottage was built by Gordon Whitney in the 1930s as part of the historic Whitney Resort, and was relocated to the Center for the Arts after the resort’s closure in the 1950s. One new location that is being explored is the vacant gas station on Gulf of Mexico Drive. Proposed uses for the cottage include a community meeting place and a venue for the Key’s Historic Society.
