Lakewood student speech earns top honors

As part of Farm City Week Nov. 14-18, Manatee County students gathered to compete in the annual Manatee River Soil and Water Conservation District Contest Nov. 14.

Taking home honors this year first-place finisher, Kalya Lepiscopo of Bayshore High School, second-place finisher Alisha Erozer of Lakewood Ranch High School, and third-place finisher Courtney Wingate, who is home-schooled.

Nolan Middle School’s Alysa Ness also participated in the contest.

For their speeches, participants tackled the topic of whether or not we should use food crops for fuel.
