Lady Mustangs advance to regional semifinal

The Lakewood Ranch High softball team defeated Tampa Jefferson 7-0 in a Class 3A-Region quarterfinal tonight.

Huntyre Elling pitched a complete game for the Lady Mustangs allowing two hits and two walks while striking out 10.

Lakewood scored three runs in the bottom of the second and third innings and scratched across their final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jenn Trotter went 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored and Quillan Toler went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the way for Lakewood at the plate. Jackie Schoff went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Taylor Newton went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; and Dana Hutchins went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

With the win, the Lady Mustangs will advance to the regional semifinals April 27 where they’ll face the winner of the other regional quarterfinal between Seminole Osceola and Tampa Leto.
