Virginia Sanders was recently recognized by the Longboat Key Garden Club for 20 years of dedication to the organization and to environmental issues.

”She has been active in so many areas,” said club President Jackie Salvino said. “She is always in charge of the club’s Arbor Day observances, and Virginia has also been instrumental in the town’s tree-planting program.”

Sanders also helped initiate the town’s recycling program.

A brick with her name has been placed in the Butterfly Garden at Bicentennial Park next to Town Hall. Other club members recognized with bricks are Penny Rosenthal and Marjorie Boulware, also for 20 years, and Claudia Fuller for her contributions to the Butterfly Garden.
