Longboat Key’s 60th anniversary fireworks have been resurrected.
Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce President Gail Loefgren submitted a permit application last week for a Jan. 23 Savor the Sounds Concert in the Park event at Bayfront Park that includes “fireworks that were not used at the town’s anniversary celebration that will be set off weather permitting.”
In a Dec. 18 email to Mayor Jack Duncan, Loefgren explains the event will be a simple affair that doesn’t request the financial support of the town other than help with town staff to help set up the event at the park.
“We hope to use the fireworks that we couldn’t use at the town’s anniversary celebration,” Loefgren wrote in her email to Duncan.
The fireworks were canceled at the town’s 60th anniversary celebration in November due to windy weather.
More details about the concert will be released soon as the town and the chamber work toward approving the event next month.
