FDOT announces pedestrian safety project on Stickney Point

The Florida Department of Transportation has announced plans to a install a pedestrian refuge island on the northeast corner of the intersection of Midnight Pass Road and Stickney Point Road on Siesta Key. In addition, crews will also be tightening the right turn from Stickney Point Road onto Midnight Pass Road.

The $500,000 project is slated to begin mid-August and conclude in early 2017.

FDOT is limiting construction to the night-time hours and is warning drivers of lane closures between 10:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.

According to a media release, FDOT hopes the improvements will increase the intersection’s safety for pedestrians and cyclists while encouraging motorists to turn onto Siesta Key from Stickney Point Road at a slower speed.
