The Longboat Key Town Commission must decide whether to set aside $5,000 in its fiscal year 2011-12 budget for the Sarasota County Economic Development Corporation.

In a June 15 letter to Town Manager Bruce St. Denis, Sarasota County Economic Development Corporation President Kathy Baylis explained that $5,022 is the town’s portion to continue participating in the county’s economic development program.

“This letter is a reminder for you to consider the town of Longboat Key’s contribution in your current budget deliberations,” Baylis wrote.

An interlocal agreement established by the corporation is self-renewing and the contributions are requested every year in June.

The city of Sarasota must pay $52,860 and the city of Venice must pay $21,846 to participate.

Contributions are based on city and town population projections.
