A ballroom dancing school that uses Payne Park Auditorium for its events is offering to take the maintenance and care of the facility off the city’s hands.
Ballroom City, a nonprofit group, regularly hosts dances at the auditorium and made its unsolicited proposal to assume the cost of operations and maintenance there, excluding major structural or mechanical repairs.
In exchange, the dance school is requesting a lease from the city for $1 per year for the next five years.
The city currently pays about $120,000 per year to maintain the facility.
Under the proposal, Ballroom City would collect and keep the revenue from other groups leasing the auditorium.
City commissioners will discuss the unsolicited offer at its meeting this evening.
