After a year-long search, the county chose a new public utilities director.

Scott Schroyer has been working as an assistant city manager and interim city manager for three years in Hudson, Ohio. He has worked in Hudson’s local government since 1984, according to a press release from Sarasota County.

Some of his specialties in his 30 years in Hudson include the operational management of water, waste water, storm water and electric utilities. As assistant city manager, he was also responsible for overseeing the utility system.

The American Public Works Association recognized Schroyer as a Public Works Leadership Fellow.

His first day is slated for Oct. 6.

“We are pleased to welcome Scott to our team in Sarasota County,” said County Administrator Tom Harmer. “His strong management background and his experience in the public works field will be a great asset in serving our residents and utility customers.”

Dave Cash served as the interim director while the position was open. He will return to his previous position in the county.
