SKATEBOARDING IS A CRIME
7:45 p.m. — 1500 block of State Street
Property Damage: A city employee noticed damage to the elevator at a parking garage. He reviewed video from that night and saw several males skateboarding in the garage. One of the subjects threw the skateboard into the elevator door several times, which resulted in the damage. An elevator repair employee said the door would need to be replaced, which comes with a cost between $5,000 and $8,000.

Jan. 24

NO SHOES, NO SHIRT
Midnight — 3300 block of North Tamiami Trail
Dispute: A man, wearing just his underwear, walked up to a police car and asked for a ride home. He said he was “turning a trick” with a girl named “Strawberry,” who left the house they were in and took all of his clothing with her. The man was adamant that he did not want the officers to make a report of the incident, and he just wanted a ride to his house.

LICENSE BAIT
8:43 a.m. — 400 block of North Allendale Avenue
Lost/Found Property: A woman found two Florida license plates in her yard. She said she has had an ongoing problem with another woman, and believed the other woman threw them into her yard. The woman said the two have gone to court against each other multiple times. The woman had a video security system, but did not know how to operate them and the cameras were not pointed at the location of the license plates. An officer later made contact with the other woman and returned the license plates.

FEELING LUCKY
10:30 p.m. — 600 block of North Washington Boulevard
Theft: A man went into a gas station convenience store and asked for a carton of cigarettes. The employee at the store went into the back room to get the carton. When he returned, the man asked how much the cigarettes cost. Upon hearing the price, he said the cigarettes were cheaper elsewhere and left. The employee later reviewed security footage and saw the man grab an unknown amount of lottery tickets while the employee was in the back room. Officers later located and arrested a man they suspected was responsible for the theft.
