DEC. 8

FAMILY THAT PREYS TOGETHER...

4:54 p.m. — 500 block of Lyons Lane

Suspicious Circumstance: A woman reported seeing two men in a black Jeep pointing a rifle at birds on power lines. She showed police the remains of two raccoons and bird feathers in the canal behind her home. The woman gave police the home address of a boy she believes was one of the shooters. The boy told police he doesn’t own a gun. He explained he only catches pigeons off the Cortez Bridge. He brings them home, cooks them and throws their wings into the canal. Police advised him to dispose of the  wings in another manner.

PLAY IT COOL

11:55 p.m. — 100 block of GMD

Traffic Violation: Police pulled over a man driving a truck with two air-conditioner units in the back because of the time of night and concern for the property in the back of the pickup truck. The man told police he was assisting with a demolition sale on the Key. His story and his driver’s license both checked out.

 

DEC. 10

DENT DAMAGE

11:02 a.m. — 6700 block of GMD

Property Damage: A man told police someone put a huge dent into his car’s front passenger door while it was parked overnight in his designated condominium parking spot. 

 

TOW, TOW, TOW YOUR BOAT

1:32 p.m. — Off the Key

Boat: There was a report of a boat on fire in Sarasota Bay, and marine patrol found the boat owner on board. He told police he already extinguished a fire from the outboard motor. Police helped tow the boat to shore, and a boat-towing company removed the boat.

 

ESCORTED OFF THE KEY

6:52 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway

Trespassing: A grocery store assistant manager told police that he wanted a man who behaved belligerently in the liquor store trespassed from the property. He was issued a written trespass warning and arrested after police discovered he failed to appear in court for a previous open container charge.

 

DEC. 13

TAKING ON WATER

11:05 a.m. — Off the Key

Assist Other Agency: Marine Patrol responded to a report of a boat taking on water with six people onboard in the Gulf.
