Oct. 17
Jury’s out
7:55 p.m. — 3300 block of 26th Avenue East. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police she received a message on her answering machine. One was from a man who told her she and her husband each missed a jury summons and needed to pay $500 each for avoiding the summonses. When she called and questioned the request, the man put a police officer on the phone who said she would be arrested if she didn’t comply. The courthouse had no record of a jury summons on file for her or her husband.

A woman scorned
11:58 p.m. — 8400 block of Gardens Circle. Battery. A man told police his girlfriend came home from a night of drinking and asked him to leave. When she started to record their conversation and threatened to send the recording to police, she bit him on the arm in an attempt to get his phone. The man then fled to the bathroom and locked the door, but his irate girlfriend kicked in the door. She was transported to jail.

Oct. 18
sobering truth
12:30 a.m. — Intersection of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Rangeland Parkway. Driving under the influence. Police observed a sport utility vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Clubhouse Drive. He refused a field sobriety test and was taken to jail.

open-door policy
7:08 a.m. — 2300 block of 51st Boulevard East. Burglary. While patrolling an area affected by a string of lawn trailer burglaries, police observed an enclosed white lawn trailer with a door open. Police discovered the trailer was broken into and informed the owner.

Entry point
9:45 a.m. — 600 block of 67th Street Circle East. Suspicious Circumstance. The manager of an inn reported someone broke down the door of one of his rooms.

Company car is off limits
10:52 a.m. — 8200 block of Championship Court. Disturbance. A husband and wife got into a argument. The wife wanted to leave in her husband’s company car. The husband told her it wasn’t going to happen.

Open house
11:25 a.m. — 300 block of Fairway Isles Lane. Suspicious Circumstance. Police observed an open garage door and found two bicycles, two cases of beer and a few boxes inside. Police couldn’t locate the owner.
Oct. 19

Highway meltdown
2:23 a.m. — Interstate 75 Southbound at State Road 70 East. Disturbance. A daughter and her mother got into an argument while traveling on the highway. The daughter exited the car when her mother pulled onto the shoulder of the highway at the daughter’s request and started traveling southbound on foot.
