Shopping spree
Nov. 9

Petit theft: A man lives with his girlfriend. He called the Sheriff’s Office to report that sometime in the last month, his girlfriend stole his credit card and used it to purchase unknown items. She spent $1,000. He did not give her permission to take his card. Since the card was not used in Manatee County to make the purchases, the man has to report the petit theft to Sarasota County’s sheriff.

He was caught by loss prevention trying to leave without paying for the hidden items, the total of which was $148.49. When he was arrested, he had $387.51 in cash with him.

No insurance, no problem
Dec. 12
11200 block of State Road 70 East
Information only: A woman parked in a Publix parking lot and when she opened her door she struck the side of the vehicle parked next to her. She tried to wipe off a small mark made by her door. The owner of the struck vehicle was sitting in the car and asked the woman if she was just going to walk off. The deputy was called, and the mark left by her car was so small it had to be pointed out to him. It was ¼ inch long. The deputy determined there was no damage to be repaired but the second woman insisted there was damage and insisted the deputy file a report. While he was doing so, she asked the first woman for her insurance. The deputy informed them that as the incident was not a crash, proof of insurance was not required.

Nov. 25
6800 44th Terrace East
Information Only: A man and a woman have been divorced since 2010. In the divorce the woman agreed not to harass the man, and he had to pay her an alimony that will end in February. Recently the woman has started to emailing the man’s employees foul language describing him and left letters with his clients discrediting his character.  In November, she called him and demanded he pay for a toll bill that their children had accrued. To avoid argument, the man sent her a check. On Dec. 11, he found the check underneath the newspaper in his driveway. His ex-wife had no reason to be in his neighborhood as she lives across town. The man requested additional patrol for his residence, and the deputy encouraged him to get a restraining order.
