For the first time since 2007, the city of Sarasota can say its taxable values are rising and not falling.

The city’s tax base, according to preliminary figures released from Sarasota County Property Appraiser Bill Furst’s office last week, will rise $29 million, for a $6.87 billion total tax base.

The numbers are good enough to produce $100,000 more in taxes this year for a city that’s facing a $1.6 million shortfall.
