Congressman Vern Buchanan’s “pill mill” legislation is getting backing from the Florida Attorney General’s Office.

Attorney General Pam Bondi on March 1 threw her support Buchanan’s “Pill Mill Crackdown Act,” which includes measures to strengthen prescription standards for certain pain medications, support state-based prescription-drug programs and toughen prison terms and fines for pill mill operators.

“Shutting down pill mills requires a comprehensive plan that includes the commitment of every level of government and law enforcement,” Bondi said. “I applaud Congressman Vern Buchanan for fighting for federal legislation to provide law enforcement with the necessary tools to aggressively combat this epidemic. I urge Congress to pass these much needed reforms.”

Buchanan said he was humbled to have Bondi’s support.

“Now, more than ever, we need to shut down these so-called pain clinics that bring untold misery to our children, our families and our communities,” he said. “Attorney General Bondi is a relentless advocate in the fight against pill mills and prescription-drug abuse.”
