Vice Mayor Jim Brown will run for a second term as the town’s District 4 commissioner.

According to Town Clerk Trish Granger, Brown asked for a commission candidate qualification packet this week.

Brown confirmed for The Longboat Observer Wednesday he will run for a second term.

Brown may have to run against former commissioner and mayor Joan Webster, who hasn’t decided whether to run for her former District 4 seat or the at-large seat currently held by Phillip Younger.

Granger said Brown must return two forms to Town Hall that confirm who his treasurer will be and the bank account he will be using to collect donations.

Once those forms are returned, Brown will be able to obtain his petition and collect 10 signatures from Key residents before becoming a certified candidate by the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office.

Brown is the former chair of the Planning and Zoning Board.

Any other interested citizens can request a commission candidate qualification packet by calling Granger at 316-1999.
