Bayfront Park playground closed indefinitely

The playground within Bayfront Park is closed indefinitely after corrosion was discovered on the equipment earlier this week.

City staff is working with the equipment vendor to determine how to repair the playground, according to a press release. The city was hoping to find a temporary measure to quickly put in place, but city spokeswoman Jan Thornburg said the repair process now appears to require more work.

“There really is no quick temporary fix because a lot of the structure is interconnected,” Thornburg said. “We're looking at a bit of a time, unfortunately, that it might be closed.”

The city estimates that the playground equipment is about 10-15 years old and is no longer covered by warrantee.
