A first quarter construction start date for a newly renovated Bayfront Park isn’t happening.

Town Manager Dave Bullock informed the Longboat Key Town Commission in a Jan. 8 email that the start date for construction has been pushed back until May.

Construction plans for the project will be 60% complete later this month and approximately 90% complete in March.

Bullock said permits for the project should be in hand Aprril 30 and project construction will begin May 1.

Besides a new shaded children’s playground, the $3.11 million park overhaul will include pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a bocce ball open space area. Other offerings include a dog park, a kayak launch and paddle sports loading area and walking trails among mangroves and a preserved rain garden area.
