Ten-year-old Jordan Golden won the Drive, Chip & Putt Championships June 29, at the Bobby Jones Golf Club, to qualify for the regional qualifier Aug. 17, in Orlando.

The Braden River Elementary School fifth-grader scored 67 to win the Girls 10-11 division by two strokes. She also finished first in the chipping portion of the tournament.

During the event, players had to hit three drives, three chips and three putts. They then were awarded points based on the accuracy and quality of those shots.

I was happy because I won. I got the most points, and I won four ribbons. I’m excited to go to Orlando and compete.

Driving was my favorite part of the tournament, because you get to hit it hard.

Chipping is the hardest, because it takes a lot of practice. I practice once a week and then go play.

I like competing and seeing how well I do against other girls.

Last summer, I won my first Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association tournament. There were about 25 other kids, and it was the season-ending championships. I beat all of the other boys and girls to win my very first one.

My favorite golfer is Paula Creamer. I like her, and I know who she is. I got to meet her. She’s a good, positive role model.

I play golf for fun, but soccer is my favorite sport. Last year was my first soccer season, and I won the most-improved player award. I play defense for the Braden River Rage U11 team. It’s a lot of fun.
