Athlete of the Week: Abby Hite

Five-year-old Abby Hite, who swims for the Lakewood Ranch YMCA Wave Runners, won the Tri if you Dare Kids Triathlon July 1, in Seminole. It was the Braden River Elementary School kindergartner’s first triathlon. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

How did you feel after you won your first triathlon?
I was happy because I won the bike, and I tried my hardest.

What’s your favorite part of the triathlon?
Bike riding. I practice all of the time and it’s very fun. I was passing everybody.

What was the toughest part about doing a triathlon?
The run. It hurt my lungs.

What made you decide to do a triathlon?
My grandma asked me if I wanted to try it. I did, and now I’m going to do another triathlon.

Do you have a favorite subject in school?
Playing on the playground.

What’s your favorite color?
Pink

Who is your favorite Disney princess?
I have two of them — Jasmine and Sleeping Beauty.

What’s your favorite cartoon show?
Disney Channel. All of it.

Do you have a favorite sport?
Cheerleading

What’s your favorite food?
Macaroni

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be?
Hungary. It has my friend there.

Do you have any pets?
I have a cat named Cupcake.

What is your favorite swim stroke?
Breaststroke and freestyle. They’re easy, and they’re fun.
