All Faiths Food Bank is diving in spoon first to a nationwide initiative that combats family hunger.

The East County organization is participating in Hunger Action Month, #ham, throughout September by taking "selfies" in which participants wear spoons on their noses.

The spoon props are typically orange — but they don't have to be that color — because orange is the signature color of the month-long initiative. Participants post their photos on the All Faiths Food Bank's Facebook page and use #spoontember to draw awareness to the campaign, which Feeding America launched in 2008.

Radio show hosts, Chelsea Clinton and a range of other well-known participants are using the photo opportunities and hashtags to fundraise  and provide meals to families in need.

Hunger Action Month focuses on donation creation, increasing volunteer efforts at food banks nationwide and educating the public on the issue of hunger, according to Feeding America's website.
