Consider It Done founders Steve Sweney and Kim Kern will do just about anything. The errand- and personal-assistance company provides companionship for elderly, property monitoring, errand-running, grocery shopping, home-arrival preparation, island tours, appointment scheduling, bill paying, pickups, deliveries and more.
Location: Northwest Bradenton; service to Longboat Key and Anna Maria
Start date: December 2010
First job ever:
Kern: I co-opted for a lawyer in high school.
Sweney: I was a grocery-store bagger.
What is something you wish you knew when you got started in business?
Kern: We were unfamiliar with our capabilities and what we could do to help others. We started out with just a few things and have added to our list.
Sweney: I think the main thing is that we are brand-new here, and we didn’t know many people down here.
Favorite way to spend a day off:
Kern: Hanging out at the beach or poolside.
Biggest challenge:
Kern: I would think the biggest challenge is being so new to the area and getting to know the people out here.
Sweney: We continue to network every day — like crazy.
Typical day on the job:
Sweney: It depends, really. I would say it starts with some time in the office … usually a couple of grocery runs for pre-stocking condos or houses, but it just depends — every day is different.
Business idol:
Kern: My old boss. She was a professor at a college … I just looked up to her because she taught me everything I know and she was a pretty great gal.
Sweney: A former co-worker with Chevron Chemical.
Where do you see your business in five years?
Sweney: Hopefully, we will have some employees and we will be well-known and well-accepted in the area. We have to earn everyone’s trust, and that takes time.
Number of employees when started: Two
